Boston Public Garden Mini-shoots

I am doing two mini-shoot days in the spring of 2013. The first is Saturday, April 27th, and the second is Saturday, May 18th, and as of 3/1/13, all 26 shoot times are booked.

Yowsa! We filled all of the 26 spots in less than a day. I do have a waiting list for the minis, and it tends to be very active. I like to have a few families in the wings because other commitments come up for families in the weeks prior to the shoot. I also tend to get last-minute cancelations in the days (and hours) before the shoot happens. If you're interested, send me an email to be added to the waiting list. When I have an opening I email the whole waiting list at once and the first reply gets the spot.

*April 27th's rain date is Sunday 4/28, and if that day's also rainy, we'll do Saturday, 5/11.

*May 18th's rain date is Sunday 5/19, and if that day's also rainy, we'll do Saturday, 6/1.

Wait, what's a mini-shoot?

Mini-shoots are 20 minute sessions (offered to families with children who are all over one year old) booked on the half hour throughout one day in the Boston Public Garden each fall and each spring. This means I shoot 13 families over the course of the day. Mini-shoots are $250 (compared to $400+ for in-home shoots), which includes the shoot and then access to the final images in an online gallery a few weeks after the session. As with all my shoots these days, every photo from the mini-shoot is presented in an online gallery in both b&w and color. The norm is for families to get an online gallery with 25-40 final, fabulous-enough-to-be-framed images from one 20 minute mini-session. You can buy all the high-res files from a mini-shoot for $375 (compared to $600 for in-home shoots). You can also order just a few JPGs or prints or photobooks, whatever you'd like. All my print/product pricing is here.

Scheduling info for the spring mini

The date (and subsequent rain dates) for the spring mini-shoot day is usually announced in late February or early March to my facebook fans first, and then in a newsletter to my subscribers. Normally I shoot the spring session on a weekend day in mid-late April or early May. People who email me asking about booking for the spring mini anytime before the date is announced get added to my "contact first" list, and this list is contacted and able to book first, before the date is opened to the public. Once I fill a mini-shoot day, I keep a waiting list for the date, and everyone has an equal chance to grab a spot when/if they become available. I keep these email addresses all together and when/if a spot becomes available in advance of the day or even on the day itself, I send an email out to everyone on the list and the first reply gets the spot.

Scheduling info for the fall mini

The date (and subsequent rain dates) for the fall mini-shoot day is usually announced in late June or early July to my facebook fans first, and then in a newsletter to my subscribers. Normally I shoot the fall session on a weekend day in late September or early October. People who email me asking about booking for the fall mini anytime before the date is announced get added to my "contact first" list, and this list is contacted and able to book first, before the date is opened to the public.

Background

Babies get older! It just happens, I know. My first love is taking baby photos, black and white, in the home - capturing moments with those sweet little ones and their families in the first year or two when they're smooshy and delicious. Inside pictures during this first year make the most sense for many reasons, but as children pass their first birthday and start to explore their world, it's fun to go outside for pictures.

Why do you shoot so many families in one day?

My client database tells me that I've had over 1,300 photoshoots since I started my business in 2003 - yikes! These guys just keep growing and needing more pictures, so...
-In order to keep most of my year's work primarily aimed towards babies, but also keep up with the demand for older children's photos (and because I LOVE seeing these guys grow up)...
-And realizing that when they're older than 1 or 2 yrs old we can easily get tons of great pictures in a 20 minute photoshoot in a pretty location outdoors...
--->I started offering Boston Public Garden mini-shoot days in the fall and spring each year.
